How To Prevent Back Pain

When you suffer from back pain, each moment can feel like an eternity; finding some form of medication to bring back pain relief is probably a sufferers first thought, even if it only temporary. Although some medication may be effective and bring pain relief, it doesn’t really help with the underlying problem of the condition causing the distress. Any type of medication should only be used with the supervision of a doctor but especially when it is taken on a regular basis.

The problem with the back is although it is strong, at the same time it is easily damaged; poor posture can also result in damage to the back and can happen when a person is quite young. It can also be caused if you are lifting heavy loads and usually characterized by a sharp pain to your lower back. There are a number of natural back pain relief methods that mean you will not have to rely on drugs.

One of the simplest but also underused remedies is just the act of stretching which can bring relief to tense muscles as well. Another type of treatment called reflexology uses a massage technique applied to the feet; it is a very old natural therapy which helps to relieve many chronic ailments in addition to back pain. In addition to this, reflexology can also help to improve the blood circulation which in turn provides relief to aching and tired muscles.

Although acupuncture is an age old Chinese medical practice that has been used for thousands of years, it is only recently that the Western world has accepted it as an alternative form of back pain relief. The Chinese believe we all have this special energy force flowing through us and when we become sick it doesn’t flow correctly. Acupuncture works by releasing the ‘chi’ or energy flow that every living thing has to improve health. There are large numbers of people that use acupuncture on a regular basis and claim it works well for them providing pain relief; especially those who have what is termed a chronic condition.

Relief can also come from another Chinese treatment like tai chi which is a form of yoga but not so strenuous. Tai Chi focuses on breathing techniques and is a great way to relax your back. Whilst it involves some stretching and breathing exercises it is not too strenuous which means that anyone, young or old can take part in Tai Chi. Natural back pain relief should really start with more frequent exercise; it would be a shame to forget the benefits that exercise can provide generally.
