The first step is the obvious one: use the Acne Cure program to eliminate all the acne from the area where ingrown hairs may be causing harm. That step alone will dramatically reduce the whole problem, for it will not only remove all those bumps, pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads that are caused by the acne, but it will also remove closed comedones that are at least a partial cause of the ingrown hair. In many cases, the problem will be entirely solved; in all cases, it will be greatly reduced. (No doubt, if the condition disappears, men will say that the Acne Cure program also cured the acne caused by their ingrown hairs.
While the acne cure is underway but you still suffer from some remaining blemishes, shave as little as possible. When you must shave, press only very lightly, and try to avoid shaving over any open wounds or scabs. You can do this by placing your finger over the spot and shaving all around it. In addition to not cutting the sore area or damaging a scab, this also allows a small amount of beard to grow over the blemish, thus somewhat camouflaging it. Then, once the blemish is healed, shave over it very gently, hardly pressing at all. Don’t worry if there are a few longer hairs left in the area … you can get to them tomorrow.
Step 2: Take Care of Your Skin
Once your acne is eliminated, make sure you keep your skin healthy. This will both help stop your acne from reappearing, and make shaving easier.
Above all, keep your skin well-moisturized with an oil-free moisturizer so that the stratum corneum remains soft enough for the hair follicle to push through it. Don’t worry; whatever you do, the stratum corneum will never become so soft that the hair can reenter. Since using a moisturizer (with a high SPF factor) is desirable for everyone, this represents no additional effort on your part.
Step 3: Shave Correctly
The most important step in dealing with any remaining ingrown hairs is don’t shave so close.
You can achieve this effect in two ways. One is to use an electric shaver, but don’t press too hard on your skin. No electric shaver ever shaved as close as a wet razor, for the simple reason that there is a screen between the cutting edge of the electric shaver and the skin, and there is none with a wet razor.
The other approach is to use a wet razor with a single blade edge. Many excellent shaving products have several blade edges in one “blade.” For example, Mach-3 by Gillette has three blades set one behind the other. The effect is to give you an exceedingly close shave: First the protective bar in front of the three-edged “blade” pushes the skin away from the hair, then each blade successively pushes the skin further down, letting its edge .
